Imagery in the cast of amontillado by Poe?

The piles of skeletons represent the death and decline of the noble family over the years. Also, the family crest and motto are key; I believe it was a foot stamping out a treacherous snake? And it's been awhile, but the notto said something about how no one could insult the family and live; these both give a clue both to the history of family pride and insanity, and to hint at the fact that the protagonist is imagining his "thousand injuries).
