I'm not sure if I need a trademark, copyright or something else to register a product name?

I came up with a name for a product that I am interesting in protecting. I just want the name to be registered as mine, not a product or idea, for the time being. I don't know if I need a trademark or something else. What is the difference between a copyright, trademark and a patent?
