What to say to obnoxious brother-in-law?

He got really (unnecessarily) worked up because I belive that people have been in outer space...he said something like there's a radioactive aura around Earth that you need like a ton of lead to get through to get into space. What can I tell him that I'd complete FACT that proves him wrong?
