I'm about to buy a mini dachshund and have a few concerns...?

As stated, I'm looking at purchasing a 6 week old mini smooth-haired dachshund and have a few concerns. I went to look at the puppies and parents. Everything great accept the mother was born with no eyes! The owner advised it was a freak of nature but very healthy otherwise. The father is a stud tan royal show winner. The little puppy is black & tan with a small white patch on the chest. I know white is undesirable on dachshunds, however I am not wanting to show, just to have as a companion. The breeder advised the puppies had been vet-checked. Should I be concerned about hereditary eye problems? What can I do, if anything? There were 6 puppies in the litter.
